Our Q&A series is back, as we continue our effort to introduce you to the talented and dedicated directors and managers at RDHB. These accounting professionals are instrumental in the day-to-day work with our clients, and RDHB would not be where we are today without them.
Remember: This is not your typical Q&A. We don’t want to repeat the details you could learn in their professional bios. Instead, we hope you’ll learn what makes them tick, and about the people they are when they’re not at the office.
This week, let’s get to know Krystal Zawodzinski.
Name: Krystal M. Zawodzinski
Title: Tax Director
Time at RDHB: 3 years
How do you spend your days at RDHB?
I work with clients to provide tax planning ideas and answer questions, and review their tax returns with them to make sure they understand everything. I oversee the tax staff to ensure projects are moving through the process. I also plan various social and networking events for the firm.
What three words would you use to describe RDHB?
Hard-working. Forward-thinking. Fun.
What do you like most about working at RDHB?
The family like atmosphere, the flexibility, and the mentoring. I also enjoy being challenged, meeting new clients, and having new opportunities.
Why did you choose a career in accounting?
I took an accounting course in high school with Mr. Wenzel and I will never forget my first day. On the board was A+L=E and I was like – huh?!?! As the days went on and the more I learned, the more I fell in love with accounting. I like that there is always an answer – you must balance! Mr. Wenzel made it fun and very interesting. I also realized that accounting is the language of business and that you can really do anything with this background.
How would you describe your job to a child?
I help people save money so they have more to spend on the things that make them happy, such as toys!
Where is your hometown?
Tell us about your family.
My husband, Jason, is a senior project manager of operations at Rochester Regional Health. He works directly under the president of RGH. He is a very driven individual who inspires me every day!
I have a 7-year-old son, Jackson. He enjoys playing a lot of sports – football, basketball and baseball. He also enjoys going to school and is very close to his sister. My 5-year-old daughter is Madison. She enjoys ALL things girly – from cheerleading to dance and everything else in between. When she is not doing those things, she is either playing Barbies or playing with her brother.
We also have 2 shitzus – one is 13 and the other is 12. Their names are Meeka and Izzy, and my husband and I got them as puppies.
What is your favorite hobby?
I enjoy working out – especially yoga and running
It’s a Sunday at 2:00pm. What are you most likely doing?
I am working if it is tax season. If not, I am at the farmer’s market or the Midtown pool with my family. Or watching the Buffalo Bills (not winning, LOL).
Name one thing that people would be surprised to know about you.
I am a vegetarian and have been for nine years now
You work in accounting, so it must be asked: What is your favorite/lucky number, and why?
21 – it is the house number of the street I grew up on as a kid
What is your favorite thing about the Rochester area? What is your favorite thing to do here?
There is something ALWAYS going on! The area is large enough where you don’t see the same people all of the time, but small enough that you run into people every now and then. I also really enjoy the seasons—yes, even the snow. My favorite thing to do is to go to the Rochester Public Market with my family on Saturdays.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My family and the determination to always do better than yesterday
What is your favorite line from a movie?
“You had me at hello.”
Favorite TV show to binge-watch?
24 – I once watched an entire season in one day/night
